What is Anti-Wrinkle Treatment?
Anti-wrinkle treatment involves the use of prescription-only medications that contain small, controlled doses of botulinum toxin type A. These medications, often recognised by their brand names such as Botox®, Dysport®, Nuceiva®, Letybo®, Relfydess®, or Daxxify®, work by temporarily relaxing targeted facial muscles. This helps to soften the appearance of lines and wrinkles that form through repeated facial expressions, such as frowning or squinting.
The treatment is intended to refresh facial appearance while maintaining natural movement. Effects are temporary and gradually wear off as muscle activity returns.

What does the procedure involve?
Micro-drops of botulinum-toxin are injected into targeted muscles with a small needle to relax the muscles and improve the appearance of wrinkles.

What type of anaesthesia/pain management is involved?
Usually none required. Ice, a vibration device or topical numbing can be used if required.

Is the treatment new or experimental?
No

What are the range of possible outcomes from the procedure in the short and long term? (e.g. the longevity of the treatment product and requirements to maintain the desired appearance)
Onset within 2–5 days, peak effect after ~14 days. Effects typically last ~3–4 months and would require 3-4 treatments per year to maintain.

What are the standard risks to the patient?
Bruising, mild headache, eyelid/brow ptosis, asymmetry; rare: flu-like symptoms, toxin resistance.

What are the potential short and long term needs for further treatment? (e.g. short = treatment for anaphylaxis, hyaluronidase to dissolve dermal filler, oral or topical antibiotics, long = surgical removal of dermal filler)
Ongoing treatments are usually needed every 3–4 months to keep results. In rare cases, extra care may be needed, such as medication for inflammation, antibiotics for infection, or review if eyelid or brow ptosis occurs.

What are the recovery times?
Generally no downtime. As with any injection, redness, tenderness, bleeding, bruising and swelling at injection sites are possible, but typically reside within a few days.

What are the care instructions/requirements during the recovery period?
After anti-wrinkle treatment, patients should avoid rubbing or massaging the treated area, avoid strenuous exercise and excessive heat (such as saunas or hot yoga) for 24 hours, remain upright for at least 4 hours post-treatment, avoid alcohol and makeup for 24 hours, and refrain from using active skincare products (like retinoids or acids) for 24–48 hours to minimise irritation and ensure optimal results.

Alternative options to the cosmetic procedure (e.g. topical products, or other non-invasive treatments)
Alternative options include topical anti-ageing products (such as retinoids or peptides), skin tightening treatments (like radiofrequency or ultrasound), and preventative measures like good sun protection and skincare.

What is a Biostimulator Treatment?
Biostimulator treatments use injectable products designed to stimulate the body’s own collagen and elastin production over time. Common brands include Sculptra®, Radiesse®, and Gouri®. Unlike dermal fillers, which provide immediate volume, biostimulators work gradually to restore skin structure, firmness, and elasticity by encouraging natural tissue regeneration. These treatments can improve overall skin quality and facial contour subtly and progressively, with results that typically develop over several months and can last one to two years, depending on the product used and individual factors.

What does the procedure involve?
Biostimulator treatments involve injecting substances such as calcium hydroxylapatite or poly-L-lactic acid into targeted areas to stimulate the body’s natural collagen and elastin production. These products work gradually to improve skin structure, firmness, and elasticity over time.

What type of anaesthesia/pain management is involved?
A topical anaesthetic cream is typically applied before treatment. In some cases, the product may be mixed with local anaesthetic to enhance comfort during the procedure.

Is the treatment new or experimental?
No

What are the range of possible outcomes from the procedure in the short and long term? (e.g. the longevity of the treatment product and requirements to maintain the desired appearance)
In the short term, patients may notice subtle improvements in skin texture and firmness. Over the following months, collagen production increases, providing gradual volumising and tightening effects. Results can last 18–24 months, depending on the product and individual factors. Maintenance is generally recommended every 1–2 years.

What are the standard risks to the patient?
Swelling, redness, bruising, tenderness, asymmetry, temporary puckering, palpable product, infection, and, rarely, nodule formation or migration.

What are the potential short and long term needs for further treatment? (e.g. short = treatment for anaphylaxis, hyaluronidase to dissolve dermal filler, oral or topical antibiotics, long = surgical removal of dermal filler)
Maintenance treatments every 1–2 years are usually required. In rare cases, management of nodules or granulomas may be necessary, which could involve massage, steroid injections, or surgical removal.

What are the recovery times?
Minimal downtime, with most swelling or redness settling within 3–7 days.

What are the care instructions/requirements during the recovery period?
Patients should avoid alcohol and makeup for 24 hours, strenuous exercise and heat for 24–48 hours, and avoid direct pressure or vigorous massage to the treated area for at least 1–2 weeks.

Alternative options to the cosmetic procedure (e.g. topical products, or other non-invasive treatments)
Topical anti-ageing products such as retinols, peptides, and vitamin C; collagen-stimulating treatments like microneedling (without injectables); and energy-based skin tightening procedures such as radiofrequency, ultrasound, or specific lasers. These may improve skin quality but will not provide the same volumising effects.

What is a Dermal Filler Treatment?
Dermal filler treatments use injectable gels made from substances that closely resemble naturally occurring components in the skin, most commonly hyaluronic acid. These products are used to restore lost volume, smooth lines, and enhance facial contours. Brands vary in formulation and consistency to suit different treatment areas and desired outcomes. Results are immediate, providing a refreshed and balanced appearance that can last from six months to two years depending on the filler type, treatment area, and individual metabolism.

What does the procedure involve?
Dermal Filler involves carefully injecting hyalaronic acid into targeted areas to restore volume, enhance facial contours, and smooth lines for a more refreshed appearance.

What type of anaesthesia/pain management is involved?
Topical numbing cream is typically applied before the treatment if necessary and most dermal fillers also contain a local anaesthetic to help keep you comfortable during the procedure.

Is the treatment new or experimental?
No

What are the range of possible outcomes from the procedure in the short and long term? (e.g. the longevity of the treatment product and requirements to maintain the desired appearance)
In the short term, dermal fillers can restore volume and smooth lines for a refreshed, more youthful appearance; results typically last 6 to 24 months depending on the product and treatment area. To maintain the desired look, repeat treatments are usually needed as the filler gradually dissolves over time.

What are the standard risks to the patient?
Risks include swelling, bruising, redness, tenderness, asymmetry, lumps, and, more rarely, infection or delayed onset immune reactions and vascular complications such as blockage of a blood vessel.

What are the potential short and long term needs for further treatment? (e.g. short = treatment for anaphylaxis, hyaluronidase to dissolve dermal filler, oral or topical antibiotics, long = surgical removal of dermal filler)
Dermal filler is gradually metabolised by the body, meaning its effects naturally diminish over time. To maintain optimal results, periodic maintenance treatments may be required. In some cases, antibiotics may be required for infection, antihistamines for allergic reactions, or hyaluronidase to dissolve filler if there’s a complication or if changes are needed for cosmetic reasons. Rarely, surgery may be required to remove filler.

What are the recovery times?
Downtime after dermal filler treatment is generally minimal; however, swelling (which may cause temporary asymmetry) and bruising can occur and last up to a few weeks, with final results typically evident at around 4 weeks post-procedure.

What are the care instructions/requirements during the recovery period?
After HA dermal filler treatment, patients should avoid alcohol and makeup for 24 hours, avoid strenuous exercise and excessive heat for 24–48 hours, avoid facial treatments (including laser, peels, and facials) for 2 weeks, be mindful of sleeping positions during the first 24 hours to prevent pressure on treated areas, and follow any additional aftercare instructions provided by their clinician to support healing and optimise results.

Alternative options to the cosmetic procedure (e.g. topical products, or other non-invasive treatments)
Alternative non-invasive options include topical skincare products (such as vitamin C, retinols, and peptides) to improve skin quality and support collagen production; collagen-stimulating treatments like microneedling (if no injectables are used); and energy-based skin tightening procedures (including radiofrequency, ultrasound, or certain laser treatments). However, these do not replace volume loss and generally provide more subtle results.

What is Rejuran Treatment?
Rejuran is an injectable skin treatment that contains polynucleotides derived from salmon DNA. These naturally occurring molecules support cellular repair, collagen synthesis, and tissue regeneration within the skin. The treatment is designed to improve skin texture, hydration, and elasticity by restoring the skin’s natural healing functions at a cellular level. Unlike fillers or anti-wrinkle injections, Rejuran does not alter facial volume or muscle movement — instead, it works gradually to enhance overall skin quality, smoothness, and resilience over a series of treatments.

What does the procedure involve?
Rejuran contains polynucleotides (PN) derived from salmon DNA. These are injected into the skin to promote cellular repair, improve elasticity, boost hydration, and enhance overall skin texture.

What type of anaesthesia/pain management is involved?
A topical numbing cream is applied before the procedure.

Is the treatment new or experimental?
No

What are the range of possible outcomes from the procedure in the short and long term? (e.g. the longevity of the treatment product and requirements to maintain the desired appearance)
Hydration and smoothness may improve in the short term, with skin regeneration and firmness increasing over 4–6 weeks. A course of 2–3 treatments spaced 4–6 weeks apart is recommended, followed by maintenance every 6–12 months.

What are the standard risks to the patient?
Mild redness, swelling, bruising, and small bumps at injection sites, which usually resolve within 24–48 hours. Rarely, an infection can occur.

What are the potential short and long term needs for further treatment? (e.g. short = treatment for anaphylaxis, hyaluronidase to dissolve dermal filler, oral or topical antibiotics, long = surgical removal of dermal filler)
Maintenance treatments every 6–12 months are typically required to sustain results.

What are the recovery times?
Minimal downtime, with most side effects resolving within 1–3 days.

What are the care instructions/requirements during the recovery period?
Patients should avoid alcohol and makeup for 24 hours, strenuous exercise and heat for 24–48 hours, and avoid rubbing or pressing the treated area.

Alternative options to the cosmetic procedure (e.g. topical products, or other non-invasive treatments)
Topical skincare containing vitamin C, retinols, and peptides; microneedling without injectables; and non-invasive energy-based treatments such as radiofrequency, ultrasound, or certain lasers to improve skin texture and tone.
